PTFC Players in the Pros

1. Sherrill Kester had a stellar four-year collegiate career at Duke before being selected in the 2000 Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) by the San Diego Spirit.  At Duke, Kester was a three time All-ACC player and was named an All-American her senior season.  She graduated from Duke ranked 2nd in career goals, and ranked 3rd for total career points.  

Kester also earned two caps with the US Women's National Team.  She became only the second USWNT player to score two goals in their debut when she scored 2 goals and added an assist in a match against Czech Republic.

2. Eddie Pope is one of the most famed and respected men's soccer players that this country has ever produced.  Pope had a wonderful collegiate career at UNC Chapel Hill, where he was an All-ACC Selection and a First Team All-American.  He went on to have a 12-year career in MLS, where he was named the MLS Defender of the Year in 1997.  The three-time MLS Champion and eight-time MLS All Star earned spots on the MLS Best XI Team four times in 1997, 1998, 2003 and 2004.  As a result of this spectacular MLS career, Pope was named to the MLS All-Time Best XI team.  

Alongside his professional career, Pope had an 11-year international career with the US Men's National Team where he played in three FIFA World Cups (France '98, South Korea/Japan '02 and Germany '06).  The USMT captain earned 82 caps during that span.  Pope was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2011.  

After retiring from professional and international play, Pope worked as the Director of Player Relations with the MLS Players Union until 2015.  Now, the hall-of-famer is the Co-Director of Octagon North American Soccer, a Division of Octagon.  Octagon is the world leader in sport and entertainment management and marketing.

3. Matt Rose is in his second season with Portland T2 of the USL. Portland T2 is an affiliate of Portland Timbers of the MLS.  Rose joined T2 last year after a successful collegiate career at both UNC Chapel Hill and Point Loma Nazerene.

4. Clyde Simms made a huge impact on the MLS after being signed by DC United in 2005.  After four standout years with the East Carolina University Men's Soccer program, where he was a three year captain, Simms was signed bythe Richmond Kickers of the USL First Division.  Simms was a key contributor to that year's team that finished as runners-up in USL-1.  At the conclusion of that season, Simms signed with DC United of MLS, where he would become a mainstay in the center of the park for United for the next seven seasons. United won several trophies during his time there, and in 2008 he started all 30 league matches and played all but three minutes! 

The DC United and NE Revolution captain earned his first cap with the US Men's National Team in 2005 in a match vs. England.

5. Corbin Waller, a current coach with PTFC, played professionally for three seasons after his successful collegiate career at College of Charleston.
